afternoon "coffee" (This is good.) (perfectly shaped, textured mug containing light brown liquid, steaming))

(carolyn perched on a big blue chair with her legs folded up under her, slouching, only eyes and nose visible behind laptop) I work right here a lot.

The doomscrolling period of my work day happens right around 3 pm. / I find that a certain snack helps. (carolyn behind laptop, eyeballs wiggly spirals, saying "destruction, destruction without reason...") / Get this: / * instant decaf coffee / * mixed with hot oat milk (no water) / * with a spoonful of honey or chocolate syrup or brown sugar.

Iris gets home just after 3. (foreground: mug that iris made for me, full of afternoon coffee / background: Iris carrying backpack, eyes shaped like hearts, saying "What is that?!") / Maybe it sounds gross? But it is creamy and a little bit sweet and a little bit bitter, and nutritionally not the *worst* ... It helps me continue.

(coffee in foreground, Iris in background with backpack, saying again "What *is* that?") / Someone I work with sent me "Letter to a Young Activist During Troubled Times" by Clarissa PInkola-Estés, and I am neither young nor really an activist but almost every sentence of this long "letter" (which is 20+ years old itself) feels important to me now. / Here is the part I say to myself most these days: / "What is needed for
dramatic change is an accumulation of acts — adding, adding to, adding more, continuing." / Stay warm & nourished, friends.
